ECALT - Exploring Port Gibson

Welcome to Port Gibson New York! Port Gibson is a unique spot because it is the only location on the Erie canal that is in Ontario County. Port Gibson is a hamlet in the town of Manchester, nestled between Palmyra and Newark. During its heyday, Port Gibson was Ontario Counties port city on the Erie Canal. This hamlet was the center of Canal trade in regional agricultural goods & a leader in industrial development including home to a malt house, a fruit drying facility, a planing mill, merchants warehouses and a hotel. This adventure lab is part of the Erie Canal Adventure Lab Trail & it will take you to 10 special stops in this historic location. There is an AL Bonus cache associated with the lab (ECALT Bonus Port Gibson GC9FPR2). You will be given the coordinates at a stop along the way. Historical photos were obtained through The Ontario County Historical Society. Thank you to all that researched this area in detail to assist with creating this Erie Canal Adventure Lab.
