The first recreational vehicle was invented in 1904. It was hand-built onto an automobile and slept four adults on bunks, was lit by incandescent lights and included an icebox and a radio. However, the first purpose-built RV was a horse-drawn Wanderer, commissioned from the Bristol Wagon Works Company by Dr. Gordon Stables in 1884.
