Witness Stones Project - Historic Deerfield, MA

In October 2022, Historic Deerfield unveiled 19 Witness Stones memorials at different locations along Old Main Street. Through research, education, and civic engagement, the WITNESS STONES PROJECT, seeks to restore the history and honor the humanity of the enslaved individuals who helped build our communities. A Witness Stones memorial is a 4” x 4” bronze plaque identifying the enslaved person. The memorials are installed in the ground close to the sidewalks. This ALC will take you to five locations (plus a bonus cache). They are intended to be visited from north to south with a bonus traditional cache. Note: You do not need to purchase any “Admission Tickets” from Historic Deerfield to find these plaques. You may find this map useful (especially if there is snow cover). https://tinyurl.com/49yzr4vc Further info: https://tinyurl.com/bdha47h2
