Coronado Sites Adventure Lab

Welcome to Coronado, a resort city in San Diego Bay. It is known for the iconic Hotel del Coronado and beautiful beaches. Ferry Landing welcomes visitors with shops, restaurants and spectacular skyline views of downtown San Diego. Spreckles Park hosts many community events including summer concerts in the beautiful gazebo. Coronado was named for the Coronado Islands off the coast of San Diego. They were first sighted in 1602 by Spanish navigator Vizcaino. He named them “Los Coronados” or “the crowned ones,” for four martyred saints of ancient Rome whose death had been on that day. In 1911, the Navy established their first aircraft squadron on North Island making it the “Birthplace of Naval Aviation”. This Adventure Lab will involve some driving. You may visit the spots in any order, but the bonus cache (GC969CG) is located on the bay side (not the ocean side). Parking near the hotel can be difficult; you may need to park further away and walk (or scooter, bike, etc.) Enjoy!
