Welcome to Wakefield

Welcome to Wakefield! Originally known as "South Reading", the town was subsequently renamed for Cyrus Wakefield, the town's largest employer and land-owner. In 1867, Mr. Wakefield donated the land and $30,000 to build a new "Town House" for the local government. Overwhelmed by this generous offer, the town voted to change its name to Wakefield, Massachusetts in his honor. (Mr. Wakefield was so pleased by the name change that he spent four times the amount of the original donation on the new Town Hall.) This Adventure Lab is designed to be a short walking tour of the "Common District" of Wakefield. It is about 1 mile round trip and should take less than 1/2 hour (if you don't get distracted along the way). Upon completion you will receive the coordinates to the nearby "Welcome to Wakefield Bonus Cache" (GC9ECQD).
